A Kansas City man, Edgar A. Mejia, has been sentenced to 26 years and 10 months in federal prison for his role in a heroin trafficking conspiracy and illegal firearm possession. The sentence comes after Mejia was convicted in March 2024 of conspiracy to distribute heroin and possessing firearms in connection with drug trafficking.
The charges stem from a 2022 investigation in which Oklahoma authorities discovered drugs and firearms hidden in Mejia’s RV while he was already in custody for drug trafficking. In October 2022, officers seized 541 grams of heroin, a semi-automatic handgun, an AR-15-style rifle, and ammunition from the vehicle, which was parked near an abandoned home in Kansas City.
Mejia’s sentence reflects the serious nature of the charges, and he will serve the time without the possibility of parole.
