Police Helicopter Rescues Toddlers From Hot Car Following Pursuit from MD to PA, Officials Say

A 25-year-old resident of Confluence, Samantha Cherry, allegedly took troopers on a ride while intoxicated with the heat index reaching or exceeding 100 degrees in the region. Fortunately, the children onboard were rescued, and Cherry will now face charges for her actions.

Police reported that the Aviation Command of the department successfully traced the abandoned suspect vehicle close to the Maryland-Pennsylvania border. Upon landing in a nearby field to conduct a thorough investigation, they were surprised to find two 3-year-olds inside the vehicle. Shockingly, the car was left with its windows closed and doors shut, causing the interior to become unbearably hot.

Less than two hours later, troopers in Fayette County responded to a two-vehicle crash on Brown Hill Road in the Markleysburg Borough. It was determined that Cherry was the driver involved in the Maryland police pursuit, according to investigators.

Pennsylvania State Police troopers arrested Cherry and charged her with driving under the influence, endangering the welfare of children, and she received multiple traffic violation citations in Maryland.
