Rapper Sean Kingston was held in federal prison for several days after being unable to post a $100,000 bond, according to court records. The 35-year-old artist, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, was found guilty last month alongside his mother in a federal wire fraud case.

Kingston was ordered into the custody of U.S. marshals during a Thursday hearing pending sentencing. He was held at the Federal Detention Center in Miami, as confirmed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

On Tuesday, Kingston’s attorney, Zeljka Bozanic, told NBC News that the bond had been posted and the singer was in the process of being released.

Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were indicted in July 2024. Prosecutors accused them of using Kingston’s celebrity status and social media platforms to fraudulently obtain over $1 million in luxury goods from April 2023 to March 2024. Among the high-end items were a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade, luxury watches, beds, and a massive 232-inch LED TV.

A federal jury in Fort Lauderdale convicted the two on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud.

Following the guilty verdict, Kingston was placed under house arrest with electronic monitoring. The court required him to post a surety bond backed by a $500,000 property and $200,000 in cash. Turner, 61, was remanded to federal custody.

Sentencing for both is scheduled for July 11. They face up to 20 years in prison per count.
