Denton Loudermill, the Kansas man who was falsely identified as a suspect in the 2024 Chiefs Super Bowl rally shooting, has died, his attorney confirmed Friday, April 11. No details regarding the cause of death have been released.

Loudermill’s life was upended after a photo of him at the rally—sitting on the ground with his hands behind his back as officers stood nearby—went viral. Despite Kansas City police quickly confirming he was not a suspect, the image sparked a wave of online hate and misinformation.

Three Missouri state senators—Rick Brattin, Denny Hoskins, and Nick Schroer—were named in lawsuits filed by Loudermill. He accused them of falsely claiming he was in the country illegally and linking him to the deadly violence at the rally. According to the lawsuits, these false claims led to death threats and significant emotional distress.

Loudermill, a native of Olathe, said the incident caused severe anxiety and mental health struggles as he became the target of public outrage based on misinformation.

Even after his passing, Loudermill’s attorney, Arthur Benson, pledged to pursue justice on his behalf. “The family intends to open an estate and the estate will continue the litigation in his name,” Benson stated.

Loudermill had recently shown public support for Missouri Governor Mike Parson in May 2024 and was still actively engaged in clearing his name before his unexpected death.
