Two men previously deported from the U.S. are now facing federal charges after being found in separate Missouri counties, the Department of Justice announced Tuesday.

A federal grand jury indicted Fernando Herrera-Cruz, a Mexican national, and Guadalupe De Jesus Aldana Sandoval, also known as Edgar Navarro Menendez, from El Salvador, for illegally reentering the United States without authorization.

Herrera-Cruz was deported on March 30, 2022, but authorities encountered him again in Camden County on March 18, 2025, after he was involved in a car accident and arrested for driving without a valid license.

Sandoval, deported back in November 2009, was found on March 25, 2025, in Pettis County, Missouri. According to the DOJ, neither man had sought legal permission to reenter the country following their deportations.

The cases are being handled as federal immigration offenses under existing U.S. law.
