The Federal Aviation Administration has announced that all three major airports in New York City and New Jersey are preparing for incoming thunderstorms, and as a result, ground stops have been issued.
At 2:10 p.m., LaGuardia Airport implemented a ground stop, which was then followed by John F. Kennedy Airport and Newark Airport at 2:15 p.m.
Current delay times:
-
- Newark Airport grounded until 7:30 p.m.
- JFK Airport grounded until 7:30 p.m.
- LaGuardia Airport grounded until 7:30 p.m.
However, organizers expect ground delays to linger into the night.
New York City officials have also issued flash flood warnings and travel advisories for Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Forecasters predict thunderstorms and heavy winds to deluge the city beginning Tuesday night.
“Forecast weather conditions may cause flight disruptions at JFK Airport,” JFK airport staff posted on X. “Please contact your airline to confirm the status of your trip.”
Prior to the ground stop, the FAA reported delays of up to four hours at JFK and approximately two hours at LaGuardia and Newark.
This is a developing story.
