Last week, authorities took a person of interest into custody after discovering the body of a murdered woman inside a sleeping bag in Manhattan.
On Monday night, the person of interest was brought from his home on an EMS gurney, with a seething crowd yelling “murderer”.
The ruling of her death as a homicide has left her family and friends seeking justice for her.
According to Williams’ family, she had a strong desire to become an advocate for women and work within the justice system to fight for the rights of victims.
Nisha Ramirez, the victim’s aunt, described her as a beautiful, sweet, and college-educated person who had a good heart.
Yazzy, as she was fondly called by her family and friends, had recently landed a new job working for the city. Her mother, Nicole Williams, shared that Yazzy’s role involved assisting the homeless. The family had planned to celebrate Nicole’s birthday in a few weeks.
Williams expressed her excitement for spending her birthday with her loved one who she was thrilled for. However, her emotions have now taken a turn as she is left devastated with the loss of her baby. “I was so excited for her and so excited to spend my birthday with her, but now I’m not, my baby is gone,” Williams shared.
The family and friends of the victim have set up a touching memorial right outside the building where she was discovered. They are united in their demand for justice to be served for their loved one.
According to Williams, the ultimate goal of the woman he spoke about was to attend law school and obtain her masters degree. “She wanted to go back to school and get her masters degree. She was determined to attend law school,” Williams said.
According to her loved ones, the person who caused harm to her is still unknown and poses a significant danger.
Ramirez expressed concern about the safety of the situation, citing the presence of a potential threat. “There’s still somebody out there,” she emphasized.
According to sources, the person in the wheelchair was known to the victim; however, the reason behind the incident remains unclear.
On Monday, police apprehended an individual of interest, although no charges have been filed yet.
The authorities are still conducting an investigation at present.
Hundreds of people came to mourn the victims at the vigil, and Lucy Yang was among them.
