Cass County prosecutors have filed charges against a man accused of violently kidnapping and assaulting a woman he was dating.
According to court records, Belton Police responded to a woman’s residence around 3:40 a.m. on April 8 after a 911 text reported someone had kicked in her door and entered the home.
When officers arrived, the suspect had already left. The woman identified him as 33-year-old Trorant E. Miller, Jr., explaining that the two were in a relationship and he had stayed at her home the previous night.
She told police that earlier that morning, she was standing outside Aura Nightclub in Kansas City with friends when Miller drove up and spotted her. She wasn’t sure how he found her but suspected he saw her in a video posted on social media by a friend.
The woman said there was “gun play” at the club, and she wanted to leave. When Miller offered her a ride home, she accepted. After dropping off another man, she claimed Miller turned violent, pulling her hair and demanding sexual acts. She repeatedly refused and asked to be let out. According to her, he alternated between threats and promises of kindness.
She said she tried to escape at a red light by opening the car door and signaling to other drivers, but it didn’t work. After that, Miller reportedly sped through stop signs at 120 mph, trying to stop her from fleeing again.
Once at her home, the woman alleged Miller threatened to hurt her if she didn’t comply. Inside, he grabbed her hair and struck her. She fought back and grabbed a knife, which he took and allegedly tried to use against her.
When Miller briefly stepped outside, the woman locked the door, called 911 from one of her two phones, and retrieved her gun. She said Miller kicked the door in, took the weapon, disassembled it, and resumed the attack.
According to the documents, Miller then dragged her out and forced her back into his car, threatening to kill her after realizing she was on the phone with police.
She said Miller held her by the hair while driving but had to release her to make a turn. She quickly put the car in park and escaped, running back home. Miller didn’t follow.
Police later recovered a Glock in her home, which she claimed belonged to Miller. Investigators discovered the firearm had been reported stolen from a vehicle in Kansas City.
A warrant was issued, and Miller was arrested on April 14. He remains in custody in Cass County on six felony charges:
-
First-degree burglary
-
Third-degree domestic assault
-
Second-degree property damage
-
Unlawful use of a weapon
-
First-degree kidnapping
-
Armed criminal action
He’s being held on a $75,000 bond, with a counsel status hearing set for April 16.
