A man was arrested on Monday by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office following an intense 11-hour standoff.
Deputies responded to a reported disturbance on Jan. 6 around 12:30 p.m. at the 34000 block of Hendrick’s Road, as stated in a release.
Upon their arrival, the deputies discovered the homeowner, a 63-year-old individual, standing outside his residence in an unincorporated area of Jackson County. The homeowner informed the authorities that he possessed a court-issued order of protection against an individual who had arrived at the scene, fired shots at him, and was currently barricaded inside the house.
The man was uncooperative when the deputies attempted to engage in conversation with him. Instead, he defiantly chose to stay put and proceeded to discharge his firearm in their direction. This alarming situation prompted the deputies to summon the emergency response tactical team for assistance.
Law enforcement spent nearly 11 hours at the scene before the suspect, a 37-year-old individual from Greenwood, Missouri, peacefully surrendered at 11:15 p.m. The authorities took him into custody and he is currently being held at the Jackson County Detention Center.
The authorities have not yet filed charges, and they have not disclosed the identity of the suspect.
Sheriff Darryl Forté expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the courageous individuals who skillfully and bravely handled this risky operation. He also extended his appreciation to the dedicated law enforcement partners and all those who played a part in ensuring a peaceful resolution.
The incident was assisted by the Lake Lotawana and Lone Jack Police Departments, as well as Lee’s Summit’s tactical team.
