In the days leading up to Christmas, the police in Lenexa carried out a well-coordinated operation to combat retail theft in Johnson County.
The Lenexa police department worked together on this initiative, with various units involved such as the K9 Unit, Bike Unit, Directed Patrol Unit, Uniform Patrol, and Dispatch. Both uniformed and undercover officers were deployed for the operation, targeting busy shopping areas near W. 95th Street and Quivira. This information was shared in a media release.
As a result of this proactive approach, law enforcement officials were able to make a total of 33 arrests on a range of charges. These charges included theft, felony theft, possession of stolen property, possession of narcotics (such as cocaine, fentanyl, and meth), possession of a firearm by a felon, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
A group suspected of being part of an organized retail crime ring was among those arrested. The authorities found stolen merchandise worth over $13,000 in their vehicle. Moreover, they also apprehended several individuals who had outstanding warrants.
