A man from Kansas City, Missouri, is facing charges in connection with the death of his ex-girlfriend’s fiancĂ©.
Keith J. Marshall, 31, faces charges of second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action, first-degree burglary, and unlawful use of a weapon.
In a recent development, the police have successfully identified both the victim and the suspect involved in a disturbing incident that took place on Friday. The lifeless body of a man was discovered inside a home located in Lee’s Summit. The authorities have been able to establish the identities of both the deceased individual and the person believed to be responsible for this tragic event.
Around 8 a.m. on Friday, Marshall and another man showed up at his ex-girlfriend’s house on SW Rutherford Drive in Lee’s Summit.
According to court documents, the woman received three missed calls that morning from a private number, which she believed belonged to Marshall. Shortly after, the men arrived in a gray Toyota Camry.
The woman chose to remain upstairs as her fiancé proceeded downstairs and left the house.
A heated argument erupted outside, leading the two men to engage in a physical altercation with the victim.
As the fiancé made his way towards the front door, it seemed like he was being coerced to go inside by the other men.
As they entered, a sudden gunshot pierced the air, causing Marshall and the other man to hastily escape the premises in the Camry, according to court documents.
The woman rushed downstairs upon hearing the sound of a gunshot, only to find her beloved fiancé lifeless.
According to court documents, the Camry was seen heading towards the victim’s address at around 7:51 a.m. Later, it was observed a short distance away from the address at 8:09 a.m.
The investigators interviewed a few witnesses, including the woman.
Multiple disagreements had arisen in the past few weeks between her and Marshall concerning their two children, she clarified.
Marshall stated in the documents that he felt “disrespected” in a particular instance where the victim was present. As a result, he refused to return one child until the victim apologized.
During their vacation, the woman and her fiancé found themselves taking care of the other child. According to her, Marshall repeatedly tried to contact her, causing disruptions throughout their trip.
After a few days, the woman went to Marshall’s parents’ house to pick up the child. Marshall was not at home as he was at work.
Marshall’s family was contacted by the police, who verified that he had been working the night shift and had come back home between 6:30-7 a.m. on the day of the crime. He then left again and returned home around 9 a.m.
Marshall voluntarily surrendered at the Lee’s Summit Police Department at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Friday.
The presence of his attorney ensured that he refrained from making any statements.
During the search of the Camry, the police discovered an empty handgun holster and brass knuckles. Additionally, a warrant search of the suspect’s residence yielded two cell phones and two pairs of shoes that could potentially be used as evidence.
Marshall is currently in custody on a $250,000 bond, as of Sunday.
