According to reports, MSNBC is taking steps to reduce costs by cutting Rachel Maddow’s salary. The network has decided to slash her annual earnings by a whopping $5 million due to the decline in ratings.
Comcast is currently facing some tough choices regarding its network and cable properties, including the future of “The Rachel Maddow Show”. According to reports, Maddow has been earning an impressive $30 million annually for her hosting duties. What truly astonishes me is that she only hosts the show once a week. In comparison, I write five days a week and my earnings are nowhere near a million. It’s remarkable how much money can be made simply by appearing on television.
According to the Ankler, Maddox will continue to earn $25 million for the next five years. Although this amount is lower than her current earnings, it still surpasses what most individuals earn throughout their entire lives. One executive stated, “This is a challenging period, and it was necessary to retain her. There is no one else who possesses her unique abilities. Building a brand like hers overnight is simply impossible.”
MSNBC Cuts Rachel Maddow’s Salary
Other sources disagree with this figure, but they have not disclosed the exact amount of the pay cut. It is worth noting that Rachel Maddow’s salary reduction coincides with a decrease in ratings for MSNBC. In addition, there are reports suggesting that Comcast is contemplating the possibility of separating its cable channels from the network. As a consequence, MSNBC could potentially undergo a name change, relocation of headquarters, and even staff layoffs.
Ratings have experienced a significant decline of 54% following the conclusion of the presidential election. To offer some context, ratings have dropped by 40% compared to the same period last year.

CNN is said to be contemplating its own layoffs.
According to an 18-year veteran of CNN, big stars have an advantage over other journalists and production workers due to the abundance of media platforms and TV channels available. The veteran expressed observations of frustration and tension among popular hosts such as Anderson Cooper, Jack Tapper, and Erin Burnett. Some of them have reportedly reached their limit with the current situation.
“The journalists and production workers are filled with fear and uncertainty, anxiously awaiting what the future holds. It feels like we’re on a sinking ship, and we’re all trying to prepare for the inevitable. We know that many of us will be saying our goodbyes in the coming weeks or months.”
