An ex-convict who was once held at the Western Illinois Correctional facility in Mt. Sterling has been sentenced to more time behind bars.
Victor Torres, aged 32, admitted his guilt on Wednesday in Brown County Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty to a single charge of aggravated battery to a peace officer.
In the past two years, Western Illinois Correctional Facility has seen a surge in incidents involving physical assaults on prison guards and employees. Among the individuals involved is Torres, a current or former inmate who has recently been charged with four counts of aggravated battery by the Brown County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Torres is currently in Cook County, serving the remaining years of his 23-year prison sentence for a murder conviction in 2013.
On Wednesday, Judge Jerry Hooker sentenced Torres to an additional 4 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. Torres will also have to pay a $500 county fine. Following the charges, Torres is now being held at the Menard Correctional Facility.
