Child dies after parents left him in the care of a woman, only for her to depart for work and place her 13-year-old child in charge of the youngster before the 1-year-old was mauled to death by her violent pets.

According to authorities, the 36-year-old woman, later identified as Heatther, was detained and charged with serious bodily injury by omission when the 1-year-old kid in her care died. Police report that the woman’s pets mauled the young child, Jiryiah, to death after she left him alone with her 13-year-old child while she went to work. According to police, the mom may face additional charges for her child’s injuries sustained while defending the toddler from the vicious pets.

The deadly incident took place on Monday at the woman’s house. The mother, responsible for the one-year-old toddler’s care, left him alone with her daughter as she left for work. During the inquiry, officials determined that shortly after the woman left, the woman’s three dogs attacked the youngster. The incident lasted many minutes, beginning when the dogs entered the bedroom and began mauling the child. The woman’s daughter sought to protect the boy but was unsuccessful. She then locked herself in the bathroom, only to have the pitbulls push their way back in and assault the youngster.

The 13-year-old girl then got out her phone and called the authorities, leaving the kid with the pitbulls. The young girl then escorted the kid into another room, securing the door with her body. First responders transported the boy to the hospital for treatment, where he died from his injuries some hours later. Erica, the boy’s mother, told officials that she had left her son in the woman’s home and was aware of her dogs but had no idea they were ‘difficult’. The mother also stated that Heather promised to secure the pets.

Authorities issued a statement noting that cops had previously responded to calls regarding the woman’s dogs. In one case, a person complained that he was unable to get out of his vehicle because the pitbulls refused to let him. It’s unclear how long the mother stayed away from home and where she went, leaving her toddler in charge. The woman even refused to provide a statement to authorities. Authorities are holding her under a $100,000 bond.
