A driver who struck and killed a bicyclist near Riverside was under the influence at the time, authorities say.
Emily A. Davis, 25, of Kansas City in Platte County, is facing a felony charge of DWI-related death. The Platte County Jail is holding her on a $50,000 cash bond.
She will appear in court again on October 1.
According to last week’s edition of The Landmark, the accident happened around 5:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 16 on NW Tullison, an outlying road near Highway 9. A Missouri State Highway Patrol investigation revealed the murder of Xavier M. Anderson, a 25-year-old resident of Kansas City. Troopers say Davis’ 2016 Chevrolet Cruze collided with the rear of Anderson’s bicycle.
North Kansas City Hospital rushed Anderson, who passed away a few hours later.
According to court filings, Sgt. J. Hall of the Highway Patrol arrived at the scene and saw a highly damaged bicycle off the right side of the road near an electric pole. According to the trooper, the bicycle hit the pole, leaving a gouge mark.
Court filings reveal that investigators discovered a red plastic component from a vehicle among the rubble. Riverside police contacted the trooper and informed him that the vehicle involved was at a roundabout approximately a half-mile away from the incident site. Riverside police officers waited with the Cruze’s driver until another trooper arrived.
According to court filings, Davis admitted to drinking alcohol and informed troopers that she had spent the majority of the night and early morning at the Argosy Casino. Davis allegedly told officers that she took her first drink around 10 p.m. the night before and her last around 2 a.m.
According to court filings, Davis blew a.164% blood alcohol concentration on a portable breath test. She later agreed to a chemical test of her breath, and authorities claim Davis supplied a breath sample at the Riverside Police Department at 8:15 a.m., revealing her BAC to be.139%.
Missouri has a legal limit of 0.08%.
