Ohio Sheriff Banned From Election Security Following Facebook Post Calling Kamala A ‘laughing hyena’

An Ohio sheriff who referred to Kamala Harris as a “laughing hyena” while calling his Facebook followers to write down her supporters’ addresses has been removed from his election security duties.

Bruce Zuchowski, Sheriff of the Portage County Sheriff’s Office, stated that residents who put Kamala Harris billboards in front of their homes should be held accountable for sheltering immigrants and urged those who follow him on Facebook to keep track of where they live.

“What’s gunna happen if the Flip-Flopping, laughing Hyena Wins??” Zuchowski wrote on Facebook on September 13. “I say … write down all the addresses of the people who had her signs in their yards!”

The Portage County elections board voted 3-1 against permitting Zuchowski and the sheriff’s office to provide protection for in-person voting, according to the Daily Beast.

A statement from Randi Clites with the Portage County Board of Elections board reads: “I made a motion to amend and update the Portage County Election Administration Plan for 2024. The motion was to remove the PC Sheriff Department from providing the election security at the Board Office during In-person Absentee Voting. The Board is weighing its options to utilize the private security already in place at the Administration Building or the Ravenna Police Department. My motion passed 3-1.”

Last Tuesday, the Ohio Secretary of State’s office published a statement saying Zuchowski’s outburst did not violate any laws. According to the office, Zuchowski could “speak and answer for himself” and was concentrating on “running an election.”
