Dolphins star Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a driving violation while on his way to Miami’s stadium for the team’s season opener on Sunday.

In a video shared on social media, a 30-year-old man was shown being handcuffed while lying face down on the floor beside his sports car. According to ESPN, Hill’s initial reason for being pulled over was speeding.

During Sunday’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Hill took the field despite his recent detainment. In a notable moment, after scoring an impressive 80-yard touchdown, he celebrated by crossing his arms behind his back, mimicking handcuffs. It seemed to be a clear reference to the incident that occurred earlier.

 

Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident near the stadium this morning and was briefly detained by the police, according to a statement from the Dolphins. He has been released since then, and several teammates stopped to offer their support after witnessing the incident.

According to Drew Rosenhaus, the agent of Hill who was present in the same car during the incident, he described it as “a heartbreaking situation” and deemed it “completely unnecessary.”

According to Rosenhaus, he expressed his admiration for Tyreek and his disappointment in seeing him involved with the police. It seems that Tyreek received a ticket for a moving violation while entering the stadium.

The Miami-Dade Police Department’s director, Stephanie V Daniels, acknowledged the recent detainment of Tyreek Hill, a player for the Miami Dolphins. In a statement, she expressed that an immediate review of the incident’s details has been requested, including a thorough examination of the available body camera footage. The department aims to provide updates as additional information becomes accessible.

Daniels mentioned that during the review process, one of the officers involved in Hill’s detainment has been assigned to administrative duties.

“That should give you all the information you need,” Hill remarked upon being informed of the officer’s relocation.

After the game on Sunday, Hill expressed his desire to become a police officer in the future but was confused as to why he had been detained. He emphasized that he was not disrespectful because his upbringing taught him better. Hill made it clear that he did not use foul language or engage in any inappropriate behavior. He admitted that he was still trying to understand the reasons behind his detention.

According to him, his fame might have prevented the situation from getting worse.

Tyreek Hill, who is Black, expressed his hesitation in bringing race into the situation but acknowledged the potential complexities that arise from it.
