Despite being sentenced to 12 days in prison for his participation in the January 6, 2021, riot in Washington, D.C., a Virginia school board member has stated that he will not resign.
Aged 39, Miles Adkins has pleaded guilty to two federal misdemeanors. He was identified as one of the rioters who had forcefully entered the US Capitol with the intention of overthrowing the 2020 election results and maintaining Donald Trump’s presidency.
According to a criminal complaint, Adkins assisted an individual in gaining access to the U.S. Capitol building by entering through a broken window near the Senate Wing Door.
With the help of security footage from the Capitol and Adkins’ social media activity, the Justice Department was able to identify Adkins.
According to the complaint, ADKINS confirmed his identity and admitted to being present at the U.S. Capitol building through a social media message in which he boasted about drinking a Coors Lite beer while inside the building.
Adkins discussed with a friend on Facebook the timing of their travel to Washington on the day prior to the attack.
Adkins reportedly stated that the fights take place during the nighttime, as per messages acquired by the Justice Department.
In 2021, Adkins was elected to Frederick County’s school board and he has recently stated to NBC4 Washington that he has no intentions of stepping down despite calls for his resignation.
As per his statement to the station, he mentioned, “You’ll need a bigger wrecking ball to get me out of there.”
Adkins has a history of being convicted for a DUI and a hit-and-run. As per the recent sentencing, Adkins will have to serve his 12-day sentence on weekends and will also be put on probation for two years.
