The DEA has concluded an extensive investigation and sentenced the leader of an Oregon-based drug trafficking ring to 97 months, which is slightly over eight years, in federal prison on Monday.
A man named Horacio Luna-Perez, aged 42 and residing in Hillsboro, played a crucial role in a drug trafficking organization operating in Portland and Eastern Washington. The organization was involved in the distribution of drugs such as meth, heroin, and fentanyl. The U.S. Attorney’s Office has revealed that this group has connections to a drug cartel based in Mexico.
DEA agents conducting the investigation have identified Jesus Miramontes-Castaneda, a 34-year-old man, as the operator of a distinct drug trafficking ring in Portland and Salem.
In the fall of 2022, Luna-Perez and Miramontes-Castaneda, along with several other individuals connected to the drug rings, were apprehended by authorities.
Miramontes-Castaneda received a sentence of 78 months in federal prison in January. Additionally, 17 other individuals involved in the case have pleaded guilty, with their sentences varying from time served to 151 months in federal prison.
Luna-Perez and Miramontes-Castaneda received a sentence of five years’ supervised release as well.
Multiple local agencies across the Portland metro area and central Oregon assisted the DEA in the investigation.
