Southeast D.C. residents are dealing with a huge mess.
They contacted WUSA9 after reporting multiple failed attempts to persuade the city to pick up a massive mound of trash.
Residents in the 1900 block of Curtis Court informed WUSA9 that unlawful dumping has resulted in rats, racoons, and unpleasant smells.
PJ, a 25-year-old resident, claimed the problem began around a year ago.
“I’ve seen folks come, dump, and run. It’s not always folks in the neighborhood,” PJ explained.
PJ claims she and several other residents have called the city’s 311 number and Ward 8 leaders multiple times. She stated that the city has so far ignored their objections.
“We pay the same taxes as Ward 1 in the Upper Northwest. People reside here. It is lowering our property value. Do the correct thing.” That’s all we ask,” PJ said.
WUSA9 reached out to DC Public Works to inquire about the lack of trash cleanup. We have yet to hear back, despite the fact that it is Independence Day and most government offices are closed for vacations.
