According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Debby caused significant damage in Virginia, including the touching down of at least two tornados.
Last week, powerful storms swept through the DMV region, causing chaos in various parts of Virginia.
At approximately 7:50 p.m. on Thursday, August 9th, the Glendie area experienced an EF-1 tornado with estimated peak winds of 90 mph. This confirmed tornado spanned over seven miles.
The powerful force caused the uprooting of large trees, snapping of limbs, and breaking of branches.
On Thursday night, a second EF-1 tornado with winds approaching 100 mph and reaching a maximum width of 100 yards was reported at 9:19 p.m. It lasted for over 10 minutes, causing significant damage.
Officials reported that numerous trees suffered severe damage, including damaged trunks and snapped large branches.
