Possible Storms and Rain Alert: Valley Residents Advised to Prepare Umbrellas

If you’re heading out of the house in Phoenix this Wednesday afternoon, it’s a wise move to bring along an umbrella.

As per the National Weather Service (NWS), the metro Phoenix area may experience a slight possibility of rainfall.

On Wednesday morning, Sean Benedict, a Meteorologist at NWS, informed KTAR News 92.3 FM that there will only be slight chances in the Phoenix area.

The NWS Phoenix forecast predicts that there might be a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m. with a probability of 30%.

Benedict predicts that there is a slight chance of showers in Phoenix during the afternoon. However, spotty activity may persist throughout the night.

According to the NWS, heavy rainfall could occur in the southern region of Phoenix.

According to Benedict, this afternoon will provide a favorable environment for powerful showers and thunderstorms throughout the region. He added that certain areas of Pinal County, such as near Casa Grande and Gila Bend, may experience more intense storms.

He mentioned the possibility of localized flash flooding occurring in those regions.

Plan to bring an umbrella? Plan ahead for blowing dust, too

In addition, drivers traveling on Interstates 8, Interstate 10, or other roadways may encounter difficulties due to the weather conditions.

The Phoenix area, along with most of southern Arizona, is bracing for a dust storm advisory from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today. The advisory warns of winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour, which could cause hazardous conditions.

According to Benedict, most of Maricopa County, along with all of Pinal, Pima and La Cruz counties, are under this dust advisory. Additionally, he mentioned that parts of La Paz and Yuma counties are also affected.

According to Benedict, “due to the widespread wind, we anticipate the generation of some dust this afternoon with the activity.”
