A fatal shooting in Kansas City’s Northland has left a male victim, believed to be a teenager or young adult, dead, with no suspects currently in custody.
Kansas City police responded to reports of gunfire Wednesday afternoon in the 7800 block of NE 75th Court. Officers found the victim in a front yard with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Preliminary reports suggest the victim had an encounter with one or more individuals before shots were fired. Authorities are working to confirm the victim’s identity and age.
Neighbors described the area as a quiet and friendly community. One resident, Ben Brady, said he heard a gunshot while working from home and later saw neighbors performing CPR on the victim before first responders arrived.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Brady said. “I’m proud of the neighbors who tried to help. My heart goes out to them.”
KCPD is urging anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
