The Kansas City Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run that occurred Monday in the parking lot of the Midtown Costco store.

A person was struck by a car and sustained life-threatening injuries.

The incident happened just after 3:45 p.m. at the Costco store located off Linwood Boulevard and Gillham Plaza.

No one is in custody at this time, but a spokesperson confirmed that the KCPD’s accident investigation unit is working to identify the driver who fled the scene.

According to the initial investigation, two individuals were involved in an argument in the parking lot just before the hit-and-run.

“I understand that people have disagreements, but it should never turn into that,” said Brian Gallagher, a visitor to Kansas City. “I think that is horrible.”

The driver of a black Mercedes was reportedly arguing with someone in the Costco parking lot, though the cause of the dispute is still unclear.

Police say the individual was holding onto the car as it began to drive away and was eventually knocked to the ground. The driver then ran over the person before fleeing the scene.
