A man from New York remains at large after an alleged stabbing incident that prompted a shelter-in-place order for Ticonderoga residents.

Jacob Sawyer,  28, of Ticonderoga, is wanted on several charges, including attempted murder, burglary, and criminal possession of a weapon.

“It’s close to home. That stuff don’t happen every day,” said John Carr, a Ticonderoga resident.

Carr said the neighborhood is still shaken after police reported that Sawyer attacked a woman with a knife. Authorities confirmed the victim is in stable condition.

The incident occurred Sunday afternoon at a Park Avenue residence, launching a manhunt and triggering the shelter-in-place order, which was lifted Monday morning.

Several local businesses and preschools closed Monday in response to the incident.

“They called us this morning and told us not to send him to school because they just didn’t open it up today,” Carr explained.

Sawyer is facing multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder.

State police, with search dogs, investigated one residence Monday afternoon as part of a multi-town search effort to locate him.

Authorities say there’s currently no threat to public safety.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Ticonderoga police at 518-585-3456.
