A 15-year-old boy from Long Island is accused of fatally stabbing his grandmother and critically injuring his mother during a violent outburst over a computer. Authorities say the teen was apprehended hours later with bloodied knives in his possession.
The Incident
On Monday night, around 10 p.m., the teen reportedly lashed out after his family threatened to take away his computer. Suffolk County police state that his mother, Vanessa Chendrmi, managed to escape the attack by running out of the house and getting into a passing vehicle. The driver called 911 for help.
First responders later discovered Vanessa’s 56-year-old mother dead from multiple stab wounds. Vanessa, who pretended to be dead after being stabbed, was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Police said the teen fled the scene but was captured about two hours later. His hands were covered in blood, and two bloodstained kitchen knives were recovered. He was arraigned on Tuesday in Central Islip’s First District Court on charges of murder and attempted murder. Due to his age, his identity has not been disclosed.
Prosecutors revealed that the boy had been acting out in recent days, skipping school and isolating himself in his room with his computer. According to reports, when the boy’s grandmother suggested that his mother take away the computer, the teen’s violent outburst followed. The grandmother was stabbed multiple times in the torso and leg.
During his court appearance, the teen remained silent. A family member chose not to comment on the case.
