A Sedgwick County judge has ruled that enough evidence exists to move forward with a trial for a 16-year-old boy accused in a deadly shooting.
Elias Cerda is facing two counts of first-degree murder and aggravated attempted robbery. He will be tried as an adult.
Cerda is accused of shooting Emoni Shears, 14, and Jhiquez Roberts, 19, during an attempted robbery on Jan. 26, 2024, in the 5200 block of E. Kensington St.  Both victims were taken to the hospital but died the following day.
Cerda, who was 14 at the time of the incident, was arrested a few days later.
During a preliminary hearing, Judge Christopher Magana reviewed the case and determined there is sufficient evidence for a trial. Cerda has entered a not guilty plea, and his next court date is set for May 2.
