Two suspects are expected to face charges in connection with a deadly shooting in Kansas City, Kansas, that left two young men dead after a drug deal turned violent, Police Chief Karl Oakman announced Monday.
Officers arrived at the 800 block of N. 70th Avenue around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and found Javon Brown, 19, and Delorean Jackson, 20, suffering from gunshot wounds outside a residence. Both were pronounced dead at the scene that night.
At a press briefing, Chief Oakman said Brown, Jackson, and a third individual had gone to the location intending to buy narcotics—but with the ulterior motive of robbing the seller. That attempted robbery quickly escalated into a gunfight between the trio and the suspected dealer, resulting in the deaths of Brown and Jackson.
“The situation on Saturday was not a random act of violence,” Oakman said. “We believe this was planned and it was carried out.”
Authorities say charges are likely as the investigation continues.
