A Kansas City man has been sentenced to five years in federal prison without parole for illegally possessing firearms in connection with drug trafficking.
Darren M. Wood Sentenced for Gun and Drug Offenses
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 28-year-old Darren M. Wood received his sentence on Monday, just over four months after pleading guilty to possessing firearms in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime.
Arrest and Seizure of Weapons and Drugs
Wood was arrested in September 2023 after officers in Belton, Missouri, responded to a report of suspicious activity involving a person sleeping in a vehicle. As officers approached, Wood exited the car.
During their search, officers discovered a loaded pistol on the driver’s seat with a round in the chamber and a fully loaded 15-round magazine. They also found over $3,000 in cash and 285 blue tablets containing fentanyl, along with other pills.
Additionally, an AR-15-style rifle was recovered from the vehicle’s trunk.
Wood’s sentencing underscores law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to combat illegal firearm possession and drug-related crimes.
