Three people were arrested, and two suspects remain at large following a robbery in south Wichita that resulted in a standoff at a residence in west Wichita on Sunday morning.
The Wichita Police Department has reported that a standoff occurred following a robbery at a residence in the 1000 block of South Ellis at around 1 a.m. on Sunday.
According to the Wichita police, two individuals were held at gunpoint by a group of five suspects who forcibly entered their residence. The victims were coerced into a bedroom and restrained using zip ties while the perpetrators proceeded to steal various electronics and three handguns.
According to Wichita police, the victims, who were acquainted with the suspects, realized that their phone and car keys had gone missing. They were able to trace the location of the suspects to a residence in the 13600 block of West Nantucket in west Wichita. It is believed that this home is connected to one of the suspects.
Around 4:40 a.m., officers promptly arrived at the residence on West Nantucket in response to the call.
Officers from the WPD attempted to negotiate with the suspects inside the home through a Ring doorbell camera. However, despite their efforts, the suspects refused to exit. As a result, the SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams were called in to provide assistance.
According to the Wichita police, they apprehended one suspect without any trouble as they awaited a search warrant. During the search of the residence, two additional suspects were discovered concealed in the attic and were subsequently apprehended.
The Wichita police are currently in the process of searching for the two additional suspects who were involved in the incident.
The standoff resulted in the closure of the 1500 block of N 135th Street between Ridgepoint and 13th until early Sunday afternoon.
