One suspect has been arrested in connection with a December double homicide that resulted in the deaths of two teenagers.

Linda S. Ater, an 18-year-old from Kansas City, has been charged in connection with a double homicide in December, according to court records filed on Saturday, Jan. 4, in Jackson County, Missouri, Circuit Court

According to a probable cause statement filed by the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department, a shooting was reported around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 9 near the Charter Landing apartment complex. Emergency crews were called to the area of Blue Hills Rd. and Citadel Dr. in response to the incident.

Initially, the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) reported that both victims were declared dead at the scene. However, there were faint signs of life in one of the victims. The authorities quickly transported them to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals also pronounced them deceased.

Law enforcement officials have reported that one of the victims in the incident was a survivor and a witness to a homicide that took place on December 5th in the 8700 block of Blue Ridge Blvd.

The investigators observed that the victim’s vehicle appeared in the footage, parked in close proximity to the suspect vehicle. Ater and another male, whose identity remains unknown, exited the victim’s car. Subsequently, the unidentified driver of the suspect vehicle also disembarked.

On Friday, January 3, the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) apprehended Ater and charged her with two counts of accessory to second-degree murder and two counts of armed criminal action.

As of Friday, Jan. 9, Ater is still in jail with a $250,000 bond. A bond review hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 10 a.m., followed by a preliminary hearing on Feb. 3 at 1 p.m.

No additional details have been disclosed regarding the case or the two additional suspects believed to be implicated. Authorities have yet to apprehend them.
