Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the tragic shooting of a fully-grown bald eagle that was discovered lifeless in Lawrence County.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is seeking assistance in identifying the individual responsible for shooting an American bald eagle in Lawrence County, Alabama.
The agency is providing a reward of up to $2,500 for any information that results in a conviction.
On December 8, 2024, an adult bald eagle was found near Mt. Hope with gunshot wounds, as reported by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Upon examination, X-rays revealed numerous shotgun pellets embedded in its body.
Bald eagles benefit from the protection of federal laws, such as the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Violations of these laws can result in substantial penalties, including fines of up to $100,000 or $15,000, as well as potential imprisonment for up to one year.
