A tragic accident in western Kansas on Friday afternoon resulted in the death of one woman and injuries to three others. The crash involved three vehicles.
Around 2 p.m. on Friday, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported that two vehicles were traveling southbound on U-83, approximately ten miles south of Garden City.
The patrol reported that the Equinox, a 2014 Chevy, slowed down and came to a stop in order to make a left-hand turn onto Parallel Road. However, the F150, a 2019 Ford, collided with the Equinox from behind, causing it to be pushed into the northbound lane of travel.
A 2014 Ford F250 collided with the driver’s side of the Equinox, while a third vehicle was involved in the crash. The Equinox and the F150 came to a stop on the road, while the F250 ended up in the ditch northeast of the intersection.
Elizabeth Gossman, a 43-year-old resident of Garden City, tragically lost her life in the accident. The Equinox she was driving was involved in the collision, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, the other occupant of the vehicle, a 14-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the F250, a 58-year-old man from Satanta, sustained minor injuries. Likewise, a 52-year-old woman from Satanta, who was a passenger in the vehicle, also suffered minor injuries.
The 23-year-old man from Lakin, who was driving the F150, fortunately did not sustain any injuries.
According to the crash log, all individuals involved in the accident were wearing their seatbelts.
