Survey finds 46% of Republican voters in favor of military detaining undocumented migrants in the US

According to a recent survey conducted by PRRI’s post-election survey, almost half of Republican voters support the idea of the United States military placing undocumented immigrants in internment camps until they can be deported.

Republican voters showed significantly higher support for this policy compared to independents (19%) and Democrats (8%).

Under the Biden-Harris administration, over 11 million migrants have entered the United States, as revealed by the latest figures from the US Customs and Border Protection.

President-elect Donald Trump has expressed his belief that the number of migrants is closer to 21 million. He has also stated his intention to declare a national emergency to tackle the issue of immigration.

Trump and his newly appointed “border czar,” Tom Homan, have made it clear that they are determined to carry out their plan of mass deportations by any means necessary, even if it means involving the military.

During his interview as the ‘Time Magazine’ Person of the Year, Trump was questioned about his plans for utilizing the military, considering the restrictions imposed by the Posse Comitatus Act, which forbids the use of the military for domestic law enforcement.

According to Trump, he will utilize the maximum extent of the country’s laws to address the situation. He firmly believes that if there is an invasion of the country, it does not hinder the military from taking action. Trump considers this situation as an invasion of our country.

The incoming Trump administration has been offered hundreds of acres of land by the state of Texas to construct detention camps and execute their deportation plans.

The PRRI survey post-election survey was conducted between November 8 and December 2, with a sample size of 5,772 adults living in the United States.
