Travelers in Dodge City and surrounding areas should be prepared for hazardous conditions early Saturday morning as dense fog blankets the region. Visibility is expected to drop below a quarter mile, prompting a Dense Fog Advisory that will remain in effect until 9 a.m. The fog is likely to impact major roadways, including U.S. Highway 50 and State Highway 283, particularly in central and southwest Kansas.
The National Weather Service advises drivers to use low beams, reduce speed, and maintain a safe following distance. While there is no significant risk of icing, untreated roads and sidewalks may remain slick in areas with below-freezing temperatures.
A weather turnaround is expected later in the day, with sunny skies and a high of 59°F by Saturday afternoon. Clear conditions will continue into Saturday night, with temperatures dropping to 34°F. Sunday will bring more sunshine and temperatures reaching 60°F, offering a nice opportunity to enjoy the outdoors after the fog lifts.
Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday will feature cool but sunny weather, with highs of around 60°F on Monday and 44°F on Tuesday. New Year’s Day will bring mostly sunny skies with a high of 46°F, providing pleasant weather for celebrations.
Residents are urged to plan extra travel time Saturday morning and stay informed via local weather updates.
