Kansas couple shot in their home, leading to homicide arrest

Law enforcement authorities have successfully apprehended a suspect involved in a fatal shooting at a residence in Sedgwick County, Kansas.

According to jail booking records, 18-year-old Sergio Rodolfo Vargas was arrested on Friday for the crime.

At approximately 11 p.m. on November 6th, police spokesman Andrew Ford reported that law enforcement responded to a shooting incident in the 2300 block of Mascot in Wichita.

Upon arriving at the scene, the first responders discovered two individuals in need of assistance – a 49-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman by the name of Deanna Garcia.

As they were getting ready for bed, the male victim heard multiple gunshots outside their home. He ended up getting shot in his lower left leg and was taken to a nearby hospital by Sedgwick County EMS. Thankfully, his injuries were not life-threatening.

Vargas has been taken into custody and is currently being held at the Sedgwick County Jail. He is facing charges of felony murder, discharge into an occupied dwelling, and aggravated battery.
