A 19-year-old suspect, who had robbed an 11-year-old child at gunpoint in Overland Park last month, has been apprehended and taken into custody in Kansas City.
The Overland Park, Kansas, Police Department made an announcement on Wednesday, December 18, stating that they have issued an arrest warrant for the man suspected of being involved in a burglary that took place on December 9.
Law enforcement officials received a call about an aggravated robbery in the area of 133rd and Outlook St. around 8:05 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 9. Upon arrival, they discovered that the suspect had broken into a vehicle and was attempting to flee the scene.
As the stolen vehicle was preparing to leave the neighborhood, a passenger, who was later identified as Kory M. Atkinson, 19, quickly exited the vehicle and proceeded to steal an 11-year-old child’s backpack at gunpoint.
The Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday in Jackson County, Missouri, have revealed that Atkinson was located in Kansas City and promptly arrested. An extradition waiver has been signed and ordered, ensuring that Atkinson can now be brought to Kansas to face the charges against him.
