According to the Augusta school district, a district staff member was caught on camera sexually assaulting a student.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon aboard a school bus. The suspect, 73-year-old William A. Wetzel from Augusta, was apprehended at a remote school facility where no children were present. Booking records from the Butler County Sheriff’s Office reveal that Wetzel served as a bus aide in the school district.
On Tuesday morning, the police received a call from the district administration regarding a reported sexual assault of a child. The school officials had discovered video footage that captured the assault taking place on the bus.
Wetzel faced arrest after being charged with aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Upon apprehension, he was promptly booked into jail. According to the Augusta police, this incident was a singular occurrence, with no other children involved and no additional victims identified.
