Liberty holiday crackdown results in Northland investigators apprehending alleged shoplifters

An initiative to enhance the safety of a well-liked shopping district in Liberty is yielding positive outcomes.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office and Liberty Police Department have apprehended four individuals involved in shoplifting. These suspects were nabbed during undercover operations conducted on December 9th and 13th. The law enforcement agencies concentrated their efforts on the shopping district along Route 152 in Liberty.

Three out of four people who were arrested are also facing charges.

    • Yolanda K. Tinsley, 54, of Kansas City, Mo. is charged with resisting arrest and misdemeanor stealing. She is accused of shoplifting $634.81 worth of items from Feldman’s Farm and Home, including Carhart coats and accessories
    • Sylvester O. Smith, 58, of Columbia, Mo. is charged with misdemeanor stealing. Officers accuse him of stealing from Feldman’s Farm and Home.
    • Joe W. Wright, 51, of Kansas City, Mo. is charged with misdemeanor stealing. He is also accused of stealing from Feldman’s Farm and Home.

During the sting, law enforcement officers apprehended a 22-year-old woman from Kansas City, Missouri. She stands accused of pilfering merchandise valued at $243.60 from Hobby Lobby, Target, and TJ Maxx. However, charges have yet to be filed in her case.

Officers conducting the operation successfully recovered a stolen vehicle and promptly reached out to the owner, who was able to reclaim her car.

The Liberty Police Department has made additional arrests as part of their ongoing operation known as ‘Operation No, No, No’.

The police chief implemented a strategy to increase patrols in order to prevent theft. According to the police chief, the presence of additional officers on patrol ensures a swift response in case any crimes occur.

On December 5th, the Liberty police made an announcement that they had successfully busted a shoplifting ring. Not only did they recover stolen merchandise, but they also managed to seize a significant amount of drugs.
