Man Arrested After Drone-Assisted Standoff in Missouri

A Missouri man wanted on multiple warrants was arrested after an hours-long barricade ended with the help of a police drone.

Kevin Payne, 32, of Montserrat, Missouri, was taken into custody on December 6, 2024, after a standoff with authorities. Payne had been evading arrest on two probation violation warrants for first-degree burglary and a misdemeanor charge. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Warrensburg Police Department, coordinated the operation to locate and arrest Payne.

Payne, who was armed with a handgun, was found in Montserrat, just east of Warrensburg. When officers approached his home, he barricaded himself inside his camper and refused to engage with negotiators.

After a brief period of surveillance, a drone was deployed to locate him inside the camper’s bedroom. Payne eventually surrendered, and he was arrested on the active warrants as well as an additional felony charge for resisting arrest.

This incident highlights the growing use of drones in law enforcement operations, aiding in the safe resolution of potentially dangerous standoffs.
