Kansas City, Missouri, resident is facing serious charges for allegedly stealing over $52,300 worth of valuables, including electronics, bottles of bourbon, and signed sports memorabilia, from four locations during a series of burglaries this fall.
Malik Givens, 50, has been charged with four counts of second-degree felony burglary for incidents that occurred on September 11, October 3, November 11, and November 20, 2024. Currently held at the Jackson County Detention Center, Givens is being detained on a $25,000 bond.
According to court documents, Givens targeted various items in the burglaries, including laptops, speakers, headphones, tablets, bottles of premium bourbon, and sports memorabilia featuring autographs. The total value of the stolen items is estimated to exceed $52,300.
Although the specific locations of the burglaries were not disclosed in the documents, conditions set for Givens’ bond bar him from approaching within 1,000 feet of four office buildings in southern Kansas City: 1200 E. 104th Street, 1011 E. 101st Terrace, 9200 Ward Parkway, and 8800 Ward Parkway.
Detectives were able to identify Givens as a suspect using surveillance footage from the burglarized locations. They compared the footage to a mugshot from Givens’ previous encounters with law enforcement. Additionally, information from his probation file helped them track him down, secure a search warrant, and recover some of the stolen goods.
Court records reveal that Givens has a history of criminal activity, with one previous charge for burglary in 2018 noted in the documents. At the time of this fall’s burglaries, Givens was reportedly on probation, adding another layer to the severity of the charges against him.
As the investigation continues, Givens remains in custody, facing multiple felony charges that could lead to significant legal consequences if convicted.
