Two individuals in Kansas are about to be released from custody as Governor Kelly has granted them pardons right before the holiday season.
Kansas Governor Laura Kelly announced on Friday, Nov. 22, that she has pardoned two individuals who have demonstrated significant rehabilitation progress during their time in prison. The decision to grant the pardons was based on thorough evaluations conducted by the Prison Review Board,, the Kansas Department of Administration, and the Governor’s legal team.
The governor announced that Anthony Mitchell and Richard McMichael have been released from custody.
“The decision to grant these pardons was made after a careful and comprehensive review process,” stated Governor Kelly. She emphasized that one of the key factors considered was the individuals’ dedication to rehabilitation, making amends, and making positive contributions to society. By granting these pardons, the governor believes it will provide a second chance to these two individuals who have taken responsibility for their actions and are actively working to rebuild their lives.”
Kelly considered various factors when making her decisions, including the nature of the offense, the impact of the crime, the demonstration of rehabilitation, and the individual’s criminal history. These pardons follow a series of previous pardons.
