The highly anticipated unemployment insurance system modernization project was launched by the Kansas Department of LaborĀ on Tuesday morning in Wichita, Kansas.
Lawmakers recognized the dire need to address the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Consequently, they allocated funds to enhance the outdated system.
Gov. Laura Kelly expressed her belief that the majority of the issues faced during the pandemic could have been prevented if there was more progress in modernization. She emphasized her commitment to the people of Kansas to complete this task, and commended Kansas Labor Secretary Amber Shultz and the entire agency team for successfully fulfilling this objective.
The getkansasbenefits.gov website underwent maintenance last Wednesday, resulting in temporary unavailability for claimants to file. However, as of today, claimants can now file their claims on the newly redirected website at kansasui.gov. To proceed, users will need to create a new account for claim filing purposes.
KDOL states that the system will enhance the unemployment insurance experience by:
-
- Streamlining operations through improved workflow efficiency and adaptability, data management, and collaborations with other agencies;
- Enhancing user experience through adoption of advanced customer relationship management systems and personalized communication channels, more self-service options, and improved mobile-friendly access for claimants; and
- Upgrading data security and compliance with enhanced cybersecurity measures to safeguard data and ensure regulatory compliance
