Law enforcement officials have provided additional information about a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday morning in Watson, Missouri. The devastating crash resulted in the loss of three lives, including two young individuals aged 18 from Kearney, Missouri.
The Fremont County (Iowa) Sheriff’s Department received a report from a woman at Grape Community Hospital, claiming that she and her 1-year-old were kidnapped by a man.
A 29-year-old man from Nebraska drove the woman to the hospital and kept driving with the baby in his Kia Sorento. According to the woman, the driver was fleeing from Nebraska law enforcement into Iowa and was described as homicidal and suicidal, as reported by WOWT-TV.
Law enforcement chased after the Kia as it raced southbound on I-29, going against traffic in the northbound lanes. Eventually, the Kia crossed the state line and entered Missouri.
The Sorento collided with a Ford Focus near mile marker 123. The Ford Focus was traveling northbound and was in the left lane, attempting to overtake a semi-truck.
The Kia collided with a bridge abutment and immediately burst into flames. Tragically, the 29-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. However, there was a glimmer of hope as his 1-year-old passenger sustained moderate injuries and was swiftly transported to an Iowa hospital in an ambulance.
Three 18-year-olds from Kearney, Missouri, who had recently graduated from Kearney High School were traveling in the Ford. Tragically, the driver and one passenger lost their lives in the accident. Meanwhile, the third passenger sustained severe injuries and had to be airlifted to a hospital in Nebraska for urgent medical attention.
