A man was apprehended by Wichita police after he attempted to escape from an officer and caused multiple collisions near Towne East Square on Tuesday.
At around 10 a.m., a speeding vehicle on Kellogg at Webb Road caught the attention of an officer. However, when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver chose to disregard the request and instead fled westbound on Kellogg Drive, as stated by WPD spokesperson Andrew Ford.
According to a statement by Ford, the motor officer decided to turn off his emergency lights and did not pursue the suspect vehicle after the driver ran a red light near Rock Road.
As the suspect fled on Kellogg Drive, he collided with a car near Towne East Mall Drive. Subsequently, he crashed into two more cars at the intersection. Fortunately, the occupants of all vehicles sustained minor injuries but chose not to receive medical treatment.
According to Ford, the suspect was apprehended by witnesses after he attempted to flee. A WPD officer promptly arrived at the scene and successfully arrested him without any additional complications.
The release expressed gratitude for the support of the community and emphasized the relief that no significant injuries were reported.
The authorities have not released any additional information, including the suspect’s name.
