Heavy Rain Leads to Multiple Crashes and Slide-Offs Across Kansas

Heavy rain causes slide-offs and crashes in Kansas

WICHITA, Kan. – Heavy rain across Kansas on Monday caused a series of crashes and slide-offs, with the Kansas Highway Patrol responding to several incidents. State troopers in the north central region of the state handled six separate accidents across an 18-county area.

Trooper Ben Gardner offered some crucial advice for drivers facing wet conditions: “Turn off the cruise control, slow down, and maintain a greater distance from the vehicle ahead,” he emphasized. “Even if you’re driving at a slower speed, if the car in front of you is too close and brakes suddenly, your quick adjustments could cause you to lose traction and slide off the road.”

In the event of hydroplaning, Gardner advised drivers to ease off the gas pedal but refrain from braking. Should a skid occur, he recommended steering in the direction you want to go without overcorrecting.

As rainfall continues to affect the region, drivers are urged to exercise caution and stay alert on the roads to prevent accidents.
