The Kansas City Police Department and the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday that scores of gang members were arrested after a massive sweep conducted by  Kansas City-area law enforcement last week successfully dismantled a deadly gang.

33 people with outstanding warrants were detained in relation to a group that has recently been linked to violent crimes throughout the city, according to a news release from the prosecutor’s office.

Sunday’s four-car crash claimed the lives of two Kearney 18-year-olds and one man.

The prosecutor’s office identified one of the suspects in the arrests as having been a shooter at a basketball game at North Kansas City High School earlier this year that resulted in two injuries. These arrests were part of a citywide sweep.

The arrests are anticipated to significantly impact the gang’s future operations, according to KCPD and the prosecutor’s office, and the collaboration is a component of a broader initiative to curb crime in Kansas City.
