A tragic accident on the Kansas Turnpike early Monday morning claimed the lives of two Minnesota residents, 78-year-old Thomas Reller and 28-year-old Octavia Reller, both of Zumbrota, Minnesota.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the fatal incident occurred on I-35 when a deer collided with one of two semi-trucks traveling together, causing the truck to swerve into the center median. The Rellers’ Chevy SUV struck the second semi-truck as it pulled onto the shoulder to avoid the collision, which resulted in the fatal accident.

Both semi-truck drivers, identified as 45-year-old Tasheba Peavy and 47-year-old Shanna Coleman from Houston, Texas, were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation to determine all contributing factors in this tragic accident.
