Man from Kansas City to be sentenced for falsely increasing tips at Applebee's

Former Applebee’s Employee Found Guilty of Fraudulently Inflating Tips, Faces Sentencing in December

A former employee of Applebee’s in Leavenworth, Kansas, has been convicted of artificially inflating his tips in order to boost his earnings.

During a plea hearing on Tuesday, Roy Taylor, a 29-year-old resident of Kansas City, Missouri, entered a no-contest plea for a single count of theft. The court accepted Roy’s plea and subsequently declared him guilty of a felony. This charge was due to his involvement in entering fraudulent tip amounts on credit card transactions.

According to court documents, Taylor, an employee at an Applebee’s restaurant located south of downtown Leavenworth, was found to have received cash payments by entering inflated tip amounts between December 18, 2020, and February 11, 2021.

According to court documents, the restaurant chain incurred a loss of nearly $8,000 as the credit card companies failed to make the payment.

As part of his plea agreement, Taylor has agreed to pay the full amount of $7,839.56 in restitution.

The sentencing hearing for the case is set to take place on December 18, 2024.
