An early-morning collision on the Kansas Turnpike south of Haysville has claimed two lives.
Around 4:30 in the morning, a collision was reported on northbound I-35 close to 87th Street South. Two semi tractor-trailers were reportedly traveling together, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. One struck the median after striking a deer.
A passenger car struck the other semi from behind after it stopped on the shoulder. According to reports, the two fatalities in the car were Minnesotans. Their identities are still unknown. With only minor injuries, the driver of the semi that struck the deer was sent to a hospital.
The Turnpike’s northbound lanes were closed, and traffic was being rerouted at Mulvane’s Exit 33. By mid-morning, the Interstate was once again available to traffic.
